Abstract
Aegle marmelos is traditional plant belonging toTamilnadu, India.
Very few and sporadic works are there in the literature regarding the
physicochemical evaluation of the plant. Qualitative phytochemical
analysis reflects the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, flavonoids,
tannins, terpenoids, saponins, quinones, glycosides, coumarins in the
ethanolic leaf extract. TLC profiling of ethanolic leaf extracts gives an
idea about the presence of various phytochemicals. Different Rf
(Retention factor) value of various phytochemicals provide valuable
clue regarding their polarity and selection of solvents for separation of
phytochemicals. HPLC revealed the presence of Rutin, Quercetin,
Marmesin and Ursolic acid in the ethanolic leaf extract. Researches in
bioactive substances might lead to the discovery of new compounds
that could be used to formulate new and most potent antimicrobial
drugs to overcome the problem of resistant to the currently available
antibiotics.
