Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to study the comparison between
Ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration results in surgical diseases of
the thyroid gland. Materials and Methods: The variables recorded
included gender, ultrasound test results, Fine Needle Aspiration results
and surgical treatment used. Results: In our study, we had a 85.7%
female prevalence. Most of the patients in their ultrasound results in
our study had multinodular goiter in two lobes (26 patients, 37.1%).
The FNA diagnosis results in our study was goiter in most of the cases
(25 patients, 35.7%) and 11 patients (15.7%) had thyroid carcinoma
(Papillary or anaplastic). Conclusion: This study shows the need for a
bigger study on a larger scale in order to understand the effectiveness
of Ultrasound compared to the accurate diagnosis using Fine Needle Aspiration.
