AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY OF KAPALBHATI ON THE PERIOD OF KUMBHAK

Abstract
Change in lifestyle and negligible physical movements have a
deteriorating impact on human health. Nowadays diseases of
respiratory system are increasing due to pollution and other causes like
excess eating of Fast Food and cold drinks. As a result the functioning
of respiratory system in its full capacity is hampered. For the diseases
of respiratory system and to increase its functioning there is most
effective method mentioned in Yoga - Kapalbhati. The practice of
Kapalbhati cleanses the entire respiratory system and nasal passage. It
allows carbon dioxide to be eliminated on a large scale which is not
possible through the normal breathing. Kapalbhati stabilizes the mind
and purifies the respiratory system as well as the body. This results in
increased functioning of lungs which is measured by duration of Kumbhak one can perform.
Present study showed marked increase in Kumbhak time after practicing Kapalbhati.
