Abstract
The present study concerned with the formulation and evaluation of
Microparticulated Bioadhesive Vaginal Tablet (MBVT). Lamivudine
encapsulated microspheres were prepared by solvent evaporation
method using ethyl cellulose as rate controlling polymer in different
ratios. The microparticles were found to be discrete, spherical with free
flowing properties and evaluated for particle size analysis, shape
(scanning electron microscopy), flow properties, drug entrapment
efficiency, and in vitro release performance. The selected
microparticulated formulation that is microsphere formulation (EF3,
containing drug: polymer ratio 1:4) was compressed in Tablet with a
variety of bioadhesive polymers. The MBVTs were evaluated for weight variation,
disintegration, hardness, friability, drug content, in vitro drug release, drug release kinetics,
bioadhesion test, swelling index.
