Abstract
Hydro alcoholic extracts of Ficus gibbosa Linn. (leaves and stem bark )
were assessed for acute toxicity and 28 days repeated oral toxicity in
Sprague Dawley (SD) rats through OECD guidelines. The test drug up
to dose of 2000 mg /Kg B.W did not cause any death and clinical signs
of toxicity in female SD rats during acute toxicity study. Animals
which received the test extracts consecutively for a period of 28 days
survived throughout the period of study and no signs of toxicity were
seen as evident by hematology, serology and histopathology
examination. Results of the present study revealed safety of stem bark
and leaves extract of Ficus gibbosa Linn. in SD rats up to dose of 2000
mg /kg B.W and 1000 mg/kg BW upon single exposure and 28 days
consecutive oral administration respectively.
