OJA VICHAR: AN AYURVEDIC REVIEW

Abstract
Ayurveda is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. According to Ayurveda in the human body, metabolic activity is performed by Tridosha (functional entity and vitiating substances), Sapta Dhatu (Seven tissue levels) and three mala (Waste product). Additional to this, Oja is considered as Dhatu and the essence of all Dhatus, which is present in all compartment of body. As per our Acharya its quality is similar to Kapha Dosha (lubricating and protective substance). Oja is also related with Bala. Oja helps in normal functioning of all body elements. The occurrence of disease within body is also prevented by the presence of quality of Oja. Disease strikes at the location where there is disarrangement of Oja. If any causes which diminution the Oja will produce three type of abnormalities are Ojo Visramsa, Ojo-Vyapad and Ojo-Kshaya. Mridu in Nature, Madhura in taste, Snigdha etc. are the qualities of Oja. Therefore this review article attempts to create certainty of Oja understandable in scientific way and its overall effect on human body.
