MANAGEMENT OF GRIDHRASI (SCIATICA) IN AYURVEDA-A REVIEW

Abstract

In Present era, the lifestyle is gradually shifting away from healthy living. Therefore the people fall victim of various diseases, sciatica is one among such ailments. Gridhrasi is a Vataja Nanatmaja vyadhi. Gridhrasi is derived from Sanskrit word Gridhra i.e Vulture, a bird, as the patient walks like a vulture that implies the typical gait. Slightly tilted on affected side and effected leg is in flexed position and another leg being extended. Sciatica, a crippling disease causes pain in hip and radiation of pain all along the Sciatic nerve Path i.e., up to feet. It is the demand of time to search for management of ailment through heritage of Ayurveda. An attempt has been made with all Herbal, Mineral and Herbomineral drugs by compiling available References from Classical Authentic texts. The main objective of this review is to focus on the Monographs of individual drugs and specific drugs, so as to give a tentative solution to the existing problem. An attempt has been made to draw the attention of Researchers for evaluation of efficacy by conducting Pharmaceutical and Clinical Researches on Gridhrasi.
