Abstract

Concept of Dosha Dhatu Mala in Ayurveda is important to understand different body functions. This concept is one of the important basic concepts of Ayurveda. Among these, Malas are the metabolic end products which are to be excreted from the body. Malas are divided into two main parts as Dhatu Mala and Aahar Mala. Aahar Malas are of two types i.e. Mutra (urine) and Purisha (stool). Both Mutra and Purisha are formed from the food. The metabolic process will be impaired if Malas are not excreted from the body and this will lead to different diseases. When a person suffers from a disease, there will be changes in these metabolic products. The diagnosis can be made by observing these changes, or this can help as tool for diagnosing different diseases. Purisha and Mutra Parikshan have importance in the ancient period. These two Parikshan has been described in Ashtasthana Pariksha of Ayurveda. Purisha and Mutra are the main metabolic products of the body, and in diseased conditions they show changes in their characters. These changes are described in various disease conditions with other signs and symptoms.
