ANTI-HYPERLIPIDEMIC AND ANTI-OXIDANT ACTIVITY OF SHULADAVANALA RASA (2) W.S.R. TO HRUTSHULA

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are estimated to account for 26% of mortality caused due to non communicable diseases in India. Raised lipid levels are well documented as a major predictive risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis. About 79% of the general adult population has abnormalities in at least one of the lipid parameters with no urban rural difference observed in India. Hridroga is a disease of Marma (vital organ), which is the seat of many vital activities. In Ayurveda all the painful heart diseases come under the broad classification of Hridroga. Pain is a predominant symptom of Hridroga. Hrutshula has been described separately in the 42nd chapter of Sushruta Uttara Tantra. Rasashastra may be defined as a branch of Ayurveda which deals with the various pharmaceutical processes of Shodhana, Marana, Jarana, Murchana and other detail description of metals, minerals, poisonous herbal drugs and animal products used therapeutically in practice of Ayurveda. Aim -To study anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-oxidant activity of Shuladavanala Rasa(2) (SR) w.s.r. to Hrutshula. Objective- (1) To study the pharmaceutical properties of Shuladavanala Rasa(2) (SR). (2) To critically study antihyperlipidemic, anti-oxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of Shuladavanala Rasa (2) (SR). Design: In the current kinetic era, Rasaushadhies have given Ayurveda a complete novel health care look. Shuladavanala Rasa (2) (SR) has significant use in Hrutashula and it is referred from Rasayogsagar (2ndvolume). It contains Parada, Gandhaka, Tamra, Shankha, Trikatu, Chincha Kshar, Panch Lavan, Pancha Kshar, Hingu, Vatsanabha. The current research paper would discuss about the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic action of Shuladavanala Rasa(2). Result: A review of various research articles have proved the anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of these ingredients. Conclusion- This review has presented a collective knowledge on therapeutic potential, pharmacological and Probable mechanism of action of Shuladavanala rasa 2 and its constituent drugs.
