AN EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF STEROIDOGENIC ACTIVITY OF JAPAKUSUMA (HIBISCUS ROSA SINESIS)

Abstract
Ayurvedic classics are rich in various local and oral anti fertility
measures. Acharya Yogaratnakara and Bhavamishra have enumerated
specific measure for contraception. Yogaratnakara mainly focused on
pharmacology of herbo-mineral drugs and described various kinds of
contraceptive, both local and oral use for the purpose of female
sterilization. Foremost type of contraception are three and combined
hormonal pill is estrogen - progesterone, more common. Hence the
present study has been planned to assure to evaluate steroidogenic
activity of kanjibhavit japakusuama an oral formulation in Wister
albino rats. The test formulation was administered to animals for 21
consecutive days. Biochemical parameter and Hormonal assay carried
out. The steroidogenesis activity of japakusuma was found to be
responsible for contraception in japakusuma.
