Abstract
To compare the efficacy, safety and compliance of short-term course
of Azithromycin with a long-term course of Amoxicillin-clavulanate in
the treatment of children with Acute Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
(ALRTI). A prospective observational study was conducted in 172
outpatients diagnosed with ALRTI.
Azithromycin was administered as a single dose for 3 days and
Amoxicillin-clavulanate was given TID for 7-10 days. The diagnosis
of LRTI was based on the presence of clinical signs and symptoms
associated with LRTI along with Microbiological evidence chest
consolidation.
The percentage of patients clinically cured plus improved was 95.3% for Amoxicillinclavulanate
whereas 93% for Azithromycin. This difference was not statistically significant
