Abstract
Background: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is defined as a nervous
system infection by the larval stage of Taenia solium. Cysticercosis is
emerging as a serious public health issue in Madagascar and is
endemic largely due to the persistence of traditional pig husbandry
practices and the lack of knowledge about the disease and general poor
hygiene. Purpose: to report a case of patient who becomes disabled
due to neurocysticercosis. Observation: We report a case of 32-yearold
malagasy man admitted in ophtalmology service of Tambohobe
hospital Fianarantsoa in october 2019 for vision loss and step
disorders. Ophtalmological examination noted bilateral cecity, bilateral
nystamus and optic disc atrophies in both eyes. He presented an
abnormal movement while walking. Biological findings and cranial computed tomography
(CT) scan diagnosed a neurocysticercosis.
