Abstract
Yakrut (Liver) is one of the important organ, which maintains the
principle functions of human body. Yakrut is the Mulasthan of
Raktavaha Srotas and is considered as the guest house or protection for
“Pitta.” Excessive bile production or a blockage in the flow of bile
usually indicates high Pitta. When Pitta is in state of inequilibrium,
disease begins in the liver which can result into the diseases of the
blood, muscle tissue, and billiary system. According to Vāgbhata,
Virechana is helpful in Pitta, also combined with Kapha or Kapha in
Pitta Sthāna (A.S.Su.27). It is beneficial in Rasavaha, Raktavaha,
Maṃsavaha and Medavaha Srotodūṣti. Srotoviśodhana is the action
achieved by Virechana. Strotorodha is the main Hetu for Yakrut
Vikaras. The Sanga & Vimargagamana in the diseases of Yakrut can be vanished by
Virechan. Thus Virechan can be effective in all types of Yakrut Vikaras.
