ORODISPERSIBLE TABLETS: A NOVEL FAST DISSOLVING DRUG DELIVERY OF ANTI-PSORIATIC DRUGS

Abstract
Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis are chronic skin disease of autoimmune
system that is identified as patches of abnormal skin, affecting 2-5% of
the world’s population. Psoriasis is an incurable lifetime disease which
can be controlled and relieved through medication. Treatment of
psoriasis includes topical therapy, systemic therapy and phototherapy.
Solid dosage forms are popular because of low cost, ease of
administration, accurate dosage self-medication, pain avoidance, and
the most importantly the patient compliance. However, drawback of
the conventional oral treatment such as tablets is Dysphagia, Common
complaints about the difficulty in swallowing tablets are size, surface,
and taste of tablets. Geriatric and pediatric patients and traveling
patients, who may not have ready access to water, are most in need of
easy swallowing dosage forms. To fulfill these medical needs, a novel oral dosage form
known as Orodispersible tablets which disperses/dissolves/disintegrates rapidly in saliva,
usually within a matter of seconds, without the need of water. Drug dissolution and
absorption, as well as onset of clinical effect and drug bioavailability, can be significantly
greater than those as compared with conventional treatment of psoriasis.
