Abstract
a) Introduction: Psoriasis is a non-infectious, chronic inflammatory
disease of the skin, characterized by well-defined erythematous
plaques with silvery scale, with a predilection for the extensor
surfaces and scalp, and a chronic fluctuating course. The disease is
tallied with Ekakushta, one among the Kshudra Kushta explained
in the ayurvedic literature,
b) Case Presentation: A male patient aged 40 years came with c/o
scaly skin lesions along with itching and powdery flakes all over
the body especially in the extensor surface of both upper limb and
lower limb and upon the trunk. On clinical examination and
investigations, the diagnosis was confirmed as Psoriasis/
Ekakushta.
c) Management and Outcome: He was given Kramataha Virechana Karma followed by the
administration of Tuvaraka Rasayana after the samsarjana krama. The extend of the skin
lesions reduced and improvement in the condition and was assessed by the PASI Score.
d) Discussion: The treatment of kushta involves shodhana and shamana revolving around
the concept of Vyadhihara Rasayana. Rasayana chikitsa is indicated for swastha as well as
atura just similar to panchakarma therapy. The effectiveness of the vyadhihara rasayana is
accelerated if done following the shodhana karma. The treatment of kushta specifies the
usage of Tuvaraka as its is known for its ubhayamarga shodhana and Rasayana karma.
Thus the treatment protocol was adopted and the result is tremendous.
