EVALUATION AND COMPARISON BETWEEN SHANKHADI RASAKRIYA ANJANA AND MADHU ANJANA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF AVRANA SHUKLA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO CORNEAL OPACITY

Abstract
Purpose: Evaluation and comparison between Shankhadi Rasakriya
Anjana and Madhu Anjana in the Management of Avrana Shukla with
Special Reference to Corneal Opacity. Design: Prospective,
randomized, interventional, hospital based comparative study Material
& Methods: In present study 60 patients were randomly selected and
divided into 2 groups, with 30 patients each. Group A patients were
treated with Shankhadi Rasakriya Anjana, once a day in the morning
for 15 days. Group B were treated with plain Madhu Anjana, once a
day in the morning for a period of 15 days. Subjective parameters like
pain in eyes, watering from eyes, visual acuity and objective
parameters like length of opacity and density of opacity were adopted. These were suitably
graded to assess the results that were statistically analysed. The patients were followed up at
regular intervals of fifteen days after stopping the treatment for a period of two months
Results: Among 60 patients of Corneal Opacities, majority of were of age group 41-50
(40%), male sex (55%) and lower socio-economic state (65%). Majority of patients (60%)
were pursuing outdoor occupation. Sign & Symptoms of pain, watering from eyes, length of
opacity and density of opacity were controlled after anjana treatment in both groups. Both the
treatment procedure was not associated with any complications. Conclusion: The
Comaparison of effects of both the group showed that anjana application done with
Shankhadi Raskriya Anjana provided better improvement in comparison to Madhu Anjana in all the symptoms of Avrana Shukla i.e. pain in eyes, watering, visual acuity, length and density of opacity.
