A PROSPECTIVE RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED CLINICAL STUDY OF TUVARAK TAILA ABHYANGA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VICHARCHIKA

Abstract
In Ayurveda, all skin diseases have classified mainly into two groups
i.e. Mahakushthas and Kshudrakushthas, Vicharchika has described
under kshudra kushthas. All Kushthas are having Tridoshaja origine;
hence, Vicharchika can explained in similar manner. Despite of its
Tridoshaja origin various Acharyas mentioned different dosha
dominancy in Vicharchika i.e. Kapha pradhana by Charaka
(cÉ.ÍcÉ.7/30), Pitta Pradhana by Sushruta (xÉÑ.ÌlÉ.5/16) and Vata-
Pitta Pradhana by Madhavnidana (qÉÉ.ÌlÉ.49/35), which also suggest
specific symptoms complex. The features of Eczema are somewhat
similar with that of Vicharchika. Symptoms of Vicharchika mentioned
by Sushruta correlate with dry eczema, whereas the symptoms
mentioned by Charaka correlate with weteczema. Tuvarak contain acids like Chaulmugric
acid, Hydnocarpic acid, Palmitic acid and having Katu(spicy), tikta(bitter) rasa(taste), ushna
virya, katu(spicy) vipaka, tikshna snigdha guna. By the virtue of this qualities Tuvaraka taila
not only debrides the thick and lichenifed lesions, but also promote the growth of healthy
skin. Hence its local application (Abhyanga) can prove to be potentially useful.
