ISOLATION AND STRUCTURE ELUCIDATION OF A PENTACYCLIC TRITERPENE FROM STEM BARK OF Ficus sycomorus
Hassan Braimah Yesufu*, Boniface Josephus, Mohammed Garba Tom and Felix Fanen Kparev
Abstract The chemical composition and biological activity of a sample of Ficus sycomorus was investigated. A pentacyclic triterpene (3β)-Lup-20(29)- en-3-yl acetate (lupeol acetate) was isolated for the first time from the stem bark extract of F. sycomorus. The structure was determined by 1D and 2D NMR. This compound showed moderate to high activity against all tested pathogens. Thereby, presents a lead for modification to fight resistant pathogens. Keywords: Antimicrobial, Ficus sycomorus, stem bark, lupeol acetate. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
