A CONTROLLED CLINICAL STUDY OF SHILAJITADI VATI WITH MEDOHAR KWATH AND ATORVASTATIN IN RASA-RAKTAGAT MEDOVRUDHHI WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO BORDERLINE HYPERLIPIDAEMIA

Abstract

Hyperlipidaemia is contributed by high fat diet, sedentary lifestyle which leads to Jatharagni Dushti. Causative factors of Rasa-Raktagat Medovruddhi and Hyperlipidaemia are having direct relation with Rasa and Rakta Dhatu, hence being close resemblance of these two diseases in terms of Nidanas and disease; Hyperlipidaemia can be studied under the heading of Rasa-Raktagat Medovruddhi. Hence the vati containing Trifala, Trikatu, Trimad with Shuddha Shilajit and Guggulu with medohar kwath acting on metabolism and microcirculation was selected to study the effect on Rasa-Raktagat Medovrudhhi. For the study; 60 patients of Hyperlipidaemia were randomly selected into two groups. First group as Trial Group were administered Shilajitadi vati 2 tabs with Medohar kwatha 10 ml twice a day before meals for 4 weeks. Another group as Control group were given tablet Atorvastatin 10 mg once daily before dinner at night for 4 weeks. Status of these symptoms and Lipid profile were recorded prior to start of treatment as well as after treatment to observe the effects. Overall effect of therapy on symptom score indicates that % of relief was more in Trial group (76.12%) than in Control group (58%). In trial group, the drug had shown a good response over total cholesterol and over LDL levels; irrespective of Diabetic or non-diabetic whereas in Control group, the levels of Total cholesterol along with LDL and triglycerides were reduced. As Hyperlipidaemia requires long term treatment and no drug in modern science is able to hit the basic pathology of the disease completely; the world looking towards Ayurveda for the ray of hope for successful treatment.
