CYCLEA PELTATA (LAM.) HOOK.F. & THOMSON: A PHARMACOLOGICAL REVIEW

Abstract Herbal products today symbolize safety unlike synthetic drugs, which are considered unsafe for humans and the environment. Cyclea peltata (Lam) Hook.f. & Thomson also known as Padathally or Padakkilangu, belongs to the Menispermaceae family, which is traditionally used to cure many diseases. According to the ancient ayurvedic script, it is used in various types of ayurvedic gritham preparations. Pharmacological studies revealed that the plant possessed anti-cancer, nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, anti- lithiasis, anti-bacterial, antiulcer, anti-oxidant and many other properties. Phytochemical studies showed that the plant contain large number of constituents which contributes to its pharmacological properties.
