STANDARDIZATION OF ANTIDIABETIC AYURVEDIC FORMULATIONS i.e., MADHUNASHINI VATI

Abstract Herbal formulations are the need of the day for better acceptance of Herbal medicine. Madhunashini Vati is a herbal formulation containing Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Chirayata (Swertia chirata), Gurmar (Gymnema sylvestre), Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera), Gokhura (Tribulus terrestris), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Bahera (Terminalia bellirica), Amla (Emblica officinalis), Bilva (Aegle marmelos), Kachur (Curcuma zedoari), Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica), Haldi (Curcuma longa) Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) ,Jamun (Syzygium cumini) Shuddha Shilajit (Asphaltum), Karela (Momordica charantia), Methi (Trigonella foenumgraecum), Malabar tree (Pterocarpus marsupium) widely used in treatment of diabetes. The present study was taken up to scientifically evaluate the various physicochemical parameters to standardize the formulation, including ash values, moisture content, pH, extractive values, chemical test, microscopy and thin layer chromatography (TLC). Qualitative chemical tests indicated the presence of alkaloid, glycoside, tannins, and steroids. Prepared tablet was also subjected to various test for tablets like hardness, friability and disintegration test they are also satisfactory.
