Abstract

A REVIEW ON NEPHROTIC SYNDROME BY AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Ayurveda is one of the most ancient systems of life health and cure. This system of knowledge flourished thoroughly over 3000 years. The frame of Ayurveda is that its treatment still holds the field in spite of so many advances in modern science. Kaumarbhritya - the paediatric specialty is one of the branches of ayurveda. Nephrotic syndrome is more common in children. It is characterised by massive proteiuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and edema. Treatment of this disease is steroid therapy along with other symptomatic treatment. Prolong or repeated steroid therapy can lead to variety of side effects. These include cushingoid syndrome, growth impairment, obesity, osteoporosis, cataract and psychological disturbances. for the better treatment and outcome of disease supportive Ayurvedic therapy can be used in nephrotic syndrome. But there is no direct description or references available in Ayurvedic classics which can be comparable with similar features of nephrotic syndrome. The present study is intended to analyze the most appropriate conditions with maximum cardinal features comparable with nephrotic syndrome.
