AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF KAKSHA VYADHI: A CASE STUDY

Abstract Background: Kaksha is one of the kshudraroga mentioned in madhavnidan that predominantly occurs due to pittaprakop. Kaksha is often correlated with herpes zoster due to resemblance of symptoms like toda, daha, krushnasphot and site of origin being torso (trunk) i.e. bahu, parshwa, ansa, kaksha and needs quicker management. Herpes zoster is a painful rash along affected dermatome followed in 2-3 days by vesicular eruptions as a result of reactivation of varicella zoster virus from its latent phase. The nature of disease is often confused with diseases such as visarpa, masurika, sheetala, etc. This study will enlighten vyadhivyavached of kaksha. Present case study will also highlight effective ayurvedic management of kaksha. Aim: To assess the effectivity of shodhan and shaman chikitsa in kaksha vyadhi. Methodology: For present case study, we shall report 18 year male patient having complaints of pitika over armpit spreading in axial manner with moderate daha and mild itching since 2 days. He had history of Dengue fever 2 years back. Patient was treated with jalaukavacharan and kaishor guggul, paripathadi kwath, shatdhaut ghrut after vyadhivinishchay. Shodhan and shaman chikitsa are discussed in present study. Results: Patient showed significant improvement within 13 days. pitika disappeared leaving a scar locally. daha, kandu diminished completely. Patient was further given treatment for scar mark and assessed. Patient’s follow up is discussed with symptomatic improvement. Conclusion: Thus according to hetu and dosh dushya samurcchana, given treatment proved to be efficient in the management of kaksha vyadhi in short duration of 13 days.
