Abstract
Quality control of traditional medicines through microscopic and
pharmaceutical analysis is need of time to effectively use drug in
practice. As per scholar‟s knowledge previously no work was found
comprising both aspect -Haritaki, Shunthi and Musta as compound and
as single drug- hence, in this study, Hariktakyadi churna (as single
ingredients and as compound) was subjected to microscopic and
different pharmaceutical studies to identify its characteristics and
purity. Not only based on modern tools, but Ayurveda points like
Rasadi Panchaka and Mahabhautika relation is also described for better
integration of modern tools and Ayurveda and better understanding of drug. Study showed
that Shunthi had minimum Ash value and Musta Maximum i.e. 0.7 and 3.95 respectively,
while as a compound (H3) it was 3.05; Water soluble extract (%) and Alcohol soluble extract
was maximum in Haritaki i.e. 50.6 and 63.1 and as compound it was 24 and 30.8
respectively; in pH Haritaki was having least i.e. 3 and Shunthi and Musta 5 to 6, while as
compound they tend to show 4.5. This shows that when drug are mixed with each other they
starts acting as Yoga, not as an individuals and here, the result is somehow average to three
so here the mixture can be considered as Pakritisamasamveta. This can be further helpful for
more data documentation and characteristics of Haritakyadi churna.
