Abstract
Introduction: Balagraha are common Infection symptom complex
disorders in pediatric practice exhibiting high morbidity rates
especially among infants. The diseases caused by unidentified factors
were often classified under idiopathic causes whereas early infancy
infections were attributed to the common ailments afflicting them the
most like Cold, Cough, Fever, Constipation and other Balagraha.
Thus, the scope of Balagraha with special reference to infections in
Ayurveda encroaches to the unidentified areas of pediatric infections
and plays a major role in prevention and cure of common pediatric
ailments. Objectives: To study the efficacy of Abhayam Ghritha in
reducing the morbidity of early infancy period by preventing affliction
of Balagraha with special reference to Infections. Material and Methods: Therapeutic
Single Blind Randomized Controlled trial, conducted at the immunization unit of Govt.
Ayurveda College Hospital for infants below 6 months of age, where 60 children were
enrolled to the study. The children in trial group were given Abhayam Ghritha on alternate
days for a period of 30 days along with the regular immunization schedule whereas control
group received regular immunization schedule for the same period. Monthly assessment of
