Abstract
Calotropis gigantea Linn. belongs to the family Asclepiadaceae, is
commonly known as giant milkweed. It has a lot of medicinal
properties which cures many diseases. The aim of this present study is
to standardize qualitative preliminary phytochemical screening to
analyse secondary metabolites present in this plant. It was carried out
from flower extract obtained by sequential method using organic
solvents such as hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol.
Carbohydrates, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds such as flavonoids,
terpenes, were present. The antioxidant activity was performed with
this four extracts, which take place in DPPH assay of TLC spot test
method. The extracts obtained from Calotropis gigantea were analyzed
for anticancer activity against breast cancer cell line. It can be carried out by calorimetric
assay known as MTT assay using a dye compound. The in vitro cytotoxicity showed the
maximum cell viability in HEX (67.49 μg/mL) and MEOH (71.30 μg/mL) extracts.
Cytotoxic potential against Breast cancer cell line (MDAMB231) with IC50 value of hexane
and methanol extracts obtained 84.05 μg/mL and 72.27 μg/mL respectively.
