EFFECT OF LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS AND YOGA IN PRE DIABETES PATIENTS

Abstract
Pre Diabetes is a condition where blood glucose levels are higher than
normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Some micro
and macrovascular complications of diabetes can be evident at pre
diabetes stage. According to National Urban Diabetes Survey, the
estimated prevalence of pre diabetes is 14 per cent in India. The
question that may be raised is as to how one may identify these
individuals, so as to have an early therapeutic impact. People with Pre
Diabetes have high risk of developing type 2 Diabetes in future.
Progression form prediabetes to diabetes can be delayed or prevented
with lifestyle modifications and some pharmacological agents.
Reducing 5 to 7% body weight in overweight individuals with prediabetes has been found to
reduce the risk of developing diabetes by almost 58%. As Prediabetes patients are associated
with increased prevalence of Cardiovascular disease as well as increased risk of development
of Diabetes Mellitus in future. So a clinical study is performed on Pre Diabetes Patients to see
the combined effect of Lifestyle Modifications and yoga. In this study significant decrease in
random blood sugar seen in pre diabetes patients.
