RASAYANA PERSPECTIVE OF HRUDAYAVARANA CHIKITSA: ONE AMONG CHATURVIMSHATI UPAKRAMA

Abstract
Urbanization, deforestation, and hazardous use of natural resources
have elevated the pollution level towards an alarming status in current
era. Death rate of approximately 4.2 million every year is observed as a
result of exposure to ambient (outdoor) air pollution. Also, mortality
rate as a result of household exposure to smoke from dirty cook stoves
and fuels is documented as 3.8 million deaths every year. Hence it is
evident that, people are becoming more and more ill resulting in
severely affects in both life span of a person and quality of life. But
environmental pollution is one such thing which cannot be eradicated
completely. People have to live in this environment itself. But making
slight alternatives in routine habits give an enormous difference in
improving quality of life. Ayurveda, Indian system of Medicine has
given the reference of such remedies. It has got 8 branches, among which Agada Tantra is
one. Acharya Charaka has explained 24 Upakramas in Chikitsa Sthana Visha Pratishedha
Adhyaya. Among these, Hrudyavarana focuses on protection for hrudaya. Ghruta rated as
Hrudya is administered as a medicament in Hrudayavarana chikitsa. Daily consumption of
Ghruta in small quantity will impart the Rasayana effect and will also neutralize the residual
poisonous effect in the body. The present article will elaborate Rasayana perspective of
Hrudyavarana chikitsa.
