EFFECT OF SURYANAMASKARA IN STHAULYA (OBESITY) - A REVIEW

Abstract

Sthaulya (Obesity) is one among the major disease of modern era with continuous changing life style, environment and diet habits. The most important cause of obesity is an energy imbalance between the calories consumed and calories expended which leads to the accumulation of fat. Atisthaulya (Obesity) is considered as one of the Astanindita purush as described by Acharya Charaka. About 13% of the world‟s adult population (11% of men and 15% of women) were obese in 2014. Though, many theory and medicament put toward us for the management of the disease but till now perfect remedy for this problem is not found in modern science. `Therefore, there is a need for more comprehensive, economical & safe medications and methods of management of Sthaulya. Yoga are being increasingly popular due to the limitations of allopathy. In Ayurveda given importance to Vyayama for the management of obesity like Sushruta Samhita mention that there is no other measure such as Vyayama (exercise) for the reduction of the fat. Therefore, keeping in view of all these points, present review article entitled with “Effect of Surya Namaskar in Sthaulya (Obesity).”
