GYNAECOLOGIC CANCERS: AN OUTLINE OF THE SYMPTOMS, RISK FACTORS AND THE TREATMENT OPTIONS TO MAKE WOMEN AWARE

Abstract Gynaecologic cancers are the cancers formed in the female reproductive organs like cervix, vagina, uterus, endometrium, vulva and ovaries. Abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in these organs are the cause of such cancers. Women should be aware of the symptoms and risk factors of these disease in order to take required preventive measures and proper treatment. Endometrial cancer is the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs and risk factors include obesity, hypertension, diabetes, inappropriate oestrogen use, tamoxifen use, and late menopause. Cervical cancer starts in the neck of the uterus (the cervix). Vaginal cancer is very rare. It starts in the vagina and is more common in older women. Vulval cancer is a rare cancer. It can start in any part of the female external sex organs, the vulva. Uterine cancer mainly occurs in tissues lining the uterus.
