AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF HYPOTHYROIDISM

Abstract The thyroid disease is any dysfunction of the butterfly shaped gland at the base of neck. The hormones secreted by thyroid gland regulates energy use, infant development and childhood development. Hypothyroidism is believed to be a common health issue in India, as it is worldwide. The prevalence of hypothyroidism in India in 2019 was 10.95%. The signs and symptoms seen in hypothyroidism are both physical and mental abnormality. There is no exact correlation of thyroid gland dysfunction is described in ayurvedic context as a vyadhi. But we can corelate with function of agni. The jatharagni, bhutagni and dhatvagni are responsible for metabolism and absorption of nutrients. It can also be correlated with Vata and Kapha dosha and rasa, rakta, mansa dushya.
