ANTICANCER ACTIVITY OF EXTRACT OF ULVA RETICULATA GROWN FRUIT OF CYAMOPSIS TETRAGONOLOBA (L.) TAUB. ON MCF-7 BREAST CANCER CELL LINE
T. Kumareswari* and S. Maria Victorial Rani
Abstract In the present study the methanolic extracts of Ulva reticulata grown fruit of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub., was used to investigate its anticancer activity in human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). Different concentrations of the methanolic extracts (50, 100, 150 and 200 μg/ml) were subjected to determine the cytotoxic effect by measuring the cell proliferation activity in MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines upto 24hr of incubation. After incubation, viability of cancer cells were greatly reduced in seaweed grown fruit extract of C.tetragonoloba than control fruit extract. This result revealed that fruit extract of control and treated, exhibit anti-proliferative activity against MCF-7 depending upon dosage, probably owing to extract compounds responsible for its anticancer properties. Keywords: anticancer activity, cell proliferation activity, seaweed, cytotoxic effect, MCF-7. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
