MANAGEMENT OF SHUQAQUL AL-MAQ’AD (FISSURE-IN-ANO) WITH UNANI FORMULATION

Abstract

Fissure-in-Ano or Anal Fissure is an ulcer in the longitudinal axis of the lower anal canal. Anal fissure starts at the opening of anus and spreads in the anal canal. In Unani system of medicine Fissure-in-Ano is called Shuqaq al-Maq’ad. Ninety-five per cent of anal fissures in men are posterior, 5% are anterior and eighty per cent of anal fissures in females are posterior; 20% are anterior. Anterior anal fissure is common in females. The disease is caused by several factors but mainly caused by constipation. Two patients were enrolled for study after their written informed consent. Marham raal was applied locally twice a day until complete healing of fissure was achieved. Patients were enrolled and investigated properly in all aspect, and treatment started with full aseptic precautions. It was observed that the healing of ulcer started within few days of treatment. It became obvious that the use of Marham raal is very effective and safe Unani formulation for the treatment of anal fissure. Fissure-in-Ano were healed completely within 3-4 weeks duration. The purpose of report is to validate the efficacy of Marham raal in treating the patients of fissure-in-Ano.
