SCREENING OF ANTITOXIC PROPERTY OF GANDHAMADAN AGADA - A REVIEW

Abstract
Ayurveda is unique amongst the healthcare disciplines in the world as
it places an emphasis on removing the cause of disease and suffering.
Ayurveda teaches suffering begins when person forgets that they are
one part of an interconnecte whole. Ayurveda utilizes the sense both as
a preventative form of medicine and as adjunct to herbal medicine and
Panchakarama. Vagbhata in Uttartantra his work Ashtanga Hrdaya and
Ashtanga sanghraha have narrated regarding the origin of Visha and
Keeta visha. There are several types of Keeta visha described. The
importance of Keeta visha is more because it causes severe
manifestations in the human being, even death also. According to its
variety diagnosis and treatment of Keeta visha is found to be difficult
because these varieties are not yet correctly identified and besides, regional variations of
these Keetas manifests very differently. According to Aacharya Vaghbahata Gandhamadan
Agada formulation is prepared by using Vishaghana drug and it is used in keet Chikitsa. The
ingredient of Gandhamadan Agada having anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial
insecticidal, anti-oxidant, hepatoprotective, immunostimulatory action. In this review article
pharmacological & therapeutic action, as well as antitoxic property of Gandhamadan Agada
along with each ingredient will be discussed.
