Abstract
Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans are non-motile, gram-ve,
saccharolytic, capnophilic round ended rod shaped bacterium. This
organism possesses a large number of virulence factors which enable it
to colonise the oral cavity, destroy periodontal tissues, degrade host
defences, connective tissue destruction and interfere with tissue repair.
A. actinomycetemcomitans are isolated from localized aggressive
periodontitis and refractory periodontitis. Other than periodontal
infections A. actinomycetemcomitans are associated with systemic
diseases also.
