Abstract
Clotrimazole possesses antifungal activity and have biological half life
of two hours, and it has many gastro-intestinal side effects when
administered orally. In present work to overcome these side effects the
transdermal patch of clotrimazole were prepared by solvent casting
method using three polymers Eudragit RS-100, Hydroxy methyl propyl
cellulose (HPMC) and Ethyl cellulose (EC). Propylene glycol was used
as penetration enhancer as well as plasticizer and methanol and
dichloromethane were used as solvent in same concentration.
Compatibility study for all the prepared patches were analyzed by
FTIR spectrophotometer. All the prepared patches were evaluated for
their weight variation, moisture content, folding endurance, thickness,
drug content and in-vitro permeation study. Further prepared patches
characterized for scanning electron microscopy. From the result it was concluded that
combination of three polymers shows good physical properties and formulation F1 shows
higher drug release as compared to formulation containing two polymers.
