SOLID LIPID NANOPARTICLES : A PROMISING AND NOVEL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM - A REVIEW
Kinjal Patel*, Divakar Goli, Soma Pramanik
Abstract Solid lipid nanoparticles is the rapidly emerging field ofnanotechnology with numerous potential applications in drug delivery, clinical medicine, cosmetics and research, as well as in other variedsciences. Solid lipid nanoparticles, colloidal drug carrier forincorporating hydrophilic or lipophilic drugs, the ability to incorporatedrugs into nano-carriers offers a new prototype in drug delivery thatcould be used for secondary and tertiary levels of drug targeting. Dueto their unique size-dependent properties, lipid nanoparticles hold greatpromise for reaching the goal of controlled and site specific drugdelivery and hence have attracted wide attention of researcher. Thisarticle gives an outline about the potential advantages anddisadvantages of solid lipid nanoparticles, the excipients and all thedifferent methods involved in the production. The characteristic ofSLN stability and secondary steps involved in their stabilization likefreeze drying, sterilization etc. Analytical methods involved in SLN evaluations arediscussed in detail. The route of administration and current applications are mentioned in thearticle Keywords: Solid lipid nanoparticles, homogenization, drug delivery, targeting, TEM.
