A REVIEW ON PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME SELECTED TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES WITH HETEROCYCLIC LIGANDS

Abstract

Transition metal complexes play an important role in medicinal inorganic chemistry. Transition metals exhibit different oxidation states and can interact with a number of negatively charged molecules. Due to the metal chelation, these compounds have attracted much attention in the development of new drug discovery. The heterocyclic ligands and their metal complexes can be used as antimicrobial, antitumor, antihistaminic, antioxidative, antiinflammatory, analgesic and neuroprotective properties. In this review, the anti-microbial, antiinflammatory and anti-tumor activity of some selected heterocyclic ligands and their metal complexes are discussed. This survey encourages further research in this field for future applications.
