AN ANATOMICAL EXPLORATION OF AVARATA MARMA

Abstract ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’ and because of it the various methods and instrumentation to fulfill his daily needs are getting advanced. In ancient times a Vaidya had to deal with more exigencies during the time of war and it might have been the reason why Marma was given utmost importance in our Samhitas. Marma are the vital points when afflicted can cause death and need utmost care while performing surgical proceedures. Marmas are basically comprises of an essential five anatomical structures. – I.e. Mamsa, Sira, Sanayu, Asthi, Sandhi. Avarata Marmas are situated bilaterally above the eyebrows. These are classified under Vaikalyakara Marma. Avarta is considered as Marma site because it is a conjuction of five delicate structures. Supra-orbital vessels and nerves are the important structures present at this site.
