AMELIORATIVE EFFECT OF HESPERIDIN METHYL CHALCONE ON ISOPROTERENOL-INDUCED OXIDATIVE DAMAGE IN RAT MYOCARDIUM
Aswini G.*, Manjunatha P. Mudagal and Ranjitha C. J.
Abstract Myocardial infarction (MI) increasingly contributing towards mortality statistics of CVD. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cardioprotective effect of Hesperidine Methyl chalcone (HMC) on myocardial infarcted rats induced by isoproterenol. The cardioprotective effect was assessed by determining the effects of HMC (30mg/kg, i.p.) in isoproterenol induced myocardial infarction on the actions of cardiac markers, antioxidant enzymes, inflammatory markers and histopathological examination. Isoproterenol (85 mg / kg, s.c.) in rats at a 24-hour period of 2 days showed significant increases (p<0.001) in cardiac markers (LDH, AST and ALT), inflammatory markers (TNF- and IL6), MDA and MPO levels; significant decrease in antioxidant enzymes (SOD, GSH, GPX and CAT). Pretreatment of HMC (30mg / kg, i.p.) to rats treated with isoproterenol for 21 days showed substantial protective effect (p<0.001). The study revealed that cardioprotective effect of HMC in isoproterenol induced MI may be due to attenuation of antioxidant enzymes and inhibition of lipid peroxidation of membrane and decrease in cardiac and inflammatory markers level, which was further confirmed by histopathological studies. Keywords: Cardio-protection, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, isoproterenol-induced, cardiac markers, anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-lipidperoxidative.
