Abstract The present study highlights the pharmacological evaluation of in-vitro anti-urolithiatic effect of Michelia champaca stem bark of the family Magnoliaceae. Michelia champaca is a tall tree with lot of potential medicinal uses. It was used in gout, arthritis, in various skin diseases, as anti-hypourecimic, antioxidant, anthelmintic, diuretic, antimicrobial etc. The phytochemical screening of stembark shows the presence of flavonoids, steroids, cardiac glycosides and reducing sugars. The evaluation of antiurolithiatic activity was carried out in aqueous and methanolic extract of stem bark of Michelia champaca in 200mg/ml and 400mg/ml concentrations. The antiurolithiatic activity was determined by Turbidity method and Dissolution method on both the concentration of aqueous and methanolic extracts using Cystone syrup as standard drug. The aqueous extract (400mg/ml) shown maximal calcium oxalate dissolving property in both Turbidity and Dissolution methods. The dose dependent inhibition of calcium oxalate crystals indicated that all the extract causes reduction in stone formation. Thus in the present study the plant Michelia champaca shows good antiurolithiatic activity effect.
