NEW 3-(2-(2-PHENYL-1H-BENZO [D] IMIDAZOL-1-YL) ACETYL)-2HCHROMEN- 2-ONE ANALOGUES AS POTENTIAL ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS
Shailesh S. Gurav* and Krishnakant T. Waghmode
Abstract The reaction of salicylaldehyde with ethyl acetoacetate yield 3-acetyl coumarin which on bromination yieled 3-(2-bromoacetyl)-2Hchromen- 2-one.[1] Various 2-substituted benzimidazoles(2) have been synthesized from o-Phenylenediamine and organic acids, then Nalkylation of compound 2 carried out with 3-(2-bromoacetyl)-2Hchromen- 2-one to give some new coumarin induced benzimidazoles. The compounds were synthesized in good yield and the structures of compounds have been established on the basis of their spectral data. Synthesized compounds were screened for antibacterial activities. Keywords: 3-(2-bromoacetyl)-2H-chromen-2-one, benzimidazole, o-Phenylenediamine, coumarin and biological activity.
