ROLE OF HARITAKYADI GHRITA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HRITSHOOLA W. S. R. TO ANGINA PECTORIS: A REVIEW

Abstract Introduction: Angina Pectoris is the clinical manifestation of Ischemic heart disease resulting from transient myocardial ischemia, characterized by chest pain. Anti anginal and vasodilator drugs play an important role in the management of such conditions. In Ayurveda Hritshoola is described under Hridroga Vyadhi as a symptoms of Vataja Hridroga. There is no direct reference of anti-anginal and vasodilator drug in Ayurveda but Haritakyadi Ghrita (Charak Samhita) is described for the treatment of Vataja Hridroga which contains Haritaki, Sunthi, Pushkarmoola, Guduchi, Amalaki, Saindhava Lavana, Hingu, & Goghrita. Mainly Vata dosha is responsible for pain and all ingredients of Haritakyadi Ghrita are Vatashamaka and also experimentally proven as a vasodilator and cardioprotective drugs. Aim & Objective: To critically study the role of Haritakyadi Ghrita in the management of Hritshoola with special reference to Angina Pectoris. Materials and Method: The ingredients of Haritakyadi Ghrita were studied for their scientific validation. The Ayurvedic classics, online journals, research articles were thoroughly reviewed for compiling the relevant data about Haritakyadi Ghrita. Observation and Result: A review of various research articles have proved the anti- anginal, Hypo-lipidemic, anti-oxidant and anti-thrombotic activity of Haritakyadi Ghrita ingredients. Conclusion: Haritakyadi Ghrita is a polyherbal formulation. This review has presented a collective knowledge on therapeutic properties, pharmacological and probable anti- anginal mechanism of action of Haritakyadi Ghrita and its constituent drugs.
