PHARMACOKINETIC OF VACHADI GANA IN ACCORDANCE TO PRAMEHA W.S.R. TO DIABETES MELLITUS - A REVIEW

Abstract
Background: Vacha, Musta, Devdaru, Shunthi, Ativisha, Haritaki are the six drugs of vachadi gana possessing Katu, Tikta, Kashaya rasa, Ushna Veerya, Katu Vipaka and Laghu, Ruksha guna. These properties of vachadi gana are exactly opposite to the predisposing factors responsible for prameha, which in turn decrease the kaphapradhanya and abdhatu, helps to remove the obstruction in channels caused due to vitiated kapha and meda in prameha. Objectives: 1) To study the pharmacokinetic of six drugs mentioned in vachadi gana. 2) To study the hypoglycemic effect of drugs mentioned in vachadi gana with reference to previous researches. Methods: Thorough review of vachadi gana from Ashtanghrudaya sutrasthan chapter 15/35 and also from various Nighantus as well as work done by researchers and scholars was taken into consideration. Results: Drugs of vachadi gana perform their action by means of rasa, veerya, vipaka and guna these are helps to destroy kapha, remove obstruction from channels, and help to keep vata in its healthy state. This vata by means of its chala guna helps to stimulates beta cells for insulin secretion. Conclusion: All the drugs possess the potent kaphanashaka and insulin secretory property. The anti-diabetic effect of these drugs is partly mediated by increasing glycogenesis. This data will be definitely useful for the scientists and researchers working in the area of traditional medicines against Diabetes.
