A CASE REPORT TO STUDY THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TRADATIONAL HEALER - LEECH THERAPY IN TENNIS ELBOW / LATERAL EPICONDYLITIS W.S.R. TO SANAYUGATA VATA VIKARA

Abstract
Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis is the most common insertional tendinopathy of human body with a Cardinal symptom of Pain on the outer and lateral aspect of elbow joint. In Ayurveda it is correlated with Snayaugata Vata Vikara. Aims: 1. To estimate the effectiveness of Rakta Visaravana technique with Leech application in Tennis Elbow. 2. To put forth an efficient alternative treatment modality other than the standard mentioned chikitsa of Sanayaugata vata vikara. Objectives: To provide a Symptomatic relief in the management of tennis elbow with Rakta Visaravan technique via Local application of Leech. Methodology: A 35 years old patient, Computer Operator by Profession, visited M.A.P. HOSPITAL with complaints of Shoola (severe pain), Stabhdhata (stiffness), Shotha (mild swelling), restricted movements, weak grasp and pain radiating from Rt Karpura Sandhi to hasta and anguli pradesha while grasping/twisting for last 6 months. All investigations including RA and X Ray examination of elbow joint & hand were Normal. After careful assessment & examination, patient was given total 6 sittings of Leech application on affected site as well as Shudha guggulu orally. Conclusion: In a short term period, there was a considerable relief in pain and on Intermediate term, there was a decrease in functional disability & increase in the strength of gripping power in affected hand.
