Abstract

EFFECT OF VIRECHANA KARMA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VIPADIKA - A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Background: Ayurveda is a science of life and aims of the Ayurveda are to maintain the health of healthy person and cure the diseased. All skin diseases in Ayurveda have been considered under the headings of Kustha. Vipadika is one of such disease which have been included under the heading of Kshudra Kustha. Fissure and crack in the feet and hands with severe pain are the symptoms of Vipadika. Vipadika is correlated with palmer-planter psoriasis which is a chronic skin disease which mainly affects palms and sole region. Specially palmo-planter psoriasis is painful fissures and bleeding which are more common, psoriasis is characterized by hyper proliferation and abnormal differentiation of epidermal karetinocides. In Ayurveda Shodhana and Shamana yoga are mentioned in the treatment of Vipadika. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Virechana karma on Vipadika. Method: In our OPD A 62 years old male patient came with typical manifestations of Vipadika. After 3 days Deepan and 5 days Snehapaan by Panchakola churna & Mahatikta gritham respectively patients is subjected for Virechana Karma by Trivrit Avaleham and then Lepana by Aragwadh patra. Result: After 7 Days of treatment there was marked relief of the manifestations like pain, pruritus, scales and fissures of sole & palm. Conclusion: The therapies were found significantly effective and clinically safe and no adverse reactions were reported during the treatment period. Further and long-term study is required to evaluate the effect of Virechana Karma in the management of Vipadika.
