A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF PANCHMOOLI KASHAY (BRIHAT) AND SHEPHALIKA KASHAY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GRIDHRASI (W.S.R. TO SCIATICA)

Abstract
Gridhrasi (Sciatica) is one of the diseases which prevalence is increasing day by day. It is important to rule it out on time and get cured. Symptoms and complications of it have effect on daily work efficiency. This study was carried out on 30 patients having classical symptoms of Gridhrasi. Patients were selected as per the inclusion, exclusion and diagnostic criteria. Patients were divided into two groups randomly. Group A was treated with Panchmooli kashay (Brihat) and Group B was treated with Shephalika kashay for 4 weeks. Scoring patterns were adopted for the assessment of the symptoms. The obtained data were analyzed statistically. In Group A, 6.66% patients were 100% cured, 20% had marked improvement, 53.33% patients had moderate improvement and 20% patients had mild improvement noted. In group B, 0.00% patient was 100% cured, 6.67% patients had marked improvement, 46.66% patients had moderate improvement and 46.66% patients had mild improvement noted. Group A showed 84.12% result while Group B showed 82.07% result. Probable action of Panchmooli Kashay (Brihat) might be Kaph vata shamak, Srotobandh nashana and Aamapaachana while of Shephalika Kashay might be Vedanasthapana, Kaphaghna. Thus, both drugs have beneficial effect in treating Gridhrasi.
