Monika Vyas* and Dr. Sudha Summarwar
Abstract
Present research to assess the quality of milk and to provide knowledge on the hygiene of milk. Two areas that offer milk to Bhilwara dairy were selected and small milk samples were collected in sterilized containers. The samples were then taken to the Sangam University laboratory in Bhilwara for further processing. After collection of milk sample, 0.5 ml of the collected sample was spread evenly over the media surface in petri plates. Number of microorganisms (bacterial cells)were calculated by multiplying the number of colonies developed on the plate with 2 to get number of bacterial cells per ml of milk. The sample from Area 1 was found to be more contaminated and sample from Area 2 was found to be less contaminated.
Keywords: Bhilwara dairy, bacterial colonies, MacConkeys agar.
