“TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF NASYA AND VACHAPIPPALI CHURNA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ARDHAVBHEDHAKA W.S.R. TO MIGRAINE”

Abstract
In Ayurvedic text, almost all the Acharyas have explained Ardhavbhedaka under Shirorogas. According to Acharya Charaka, it is Vatakaphaja and according to Acharya Sushruta, it is Tridoshaja Vyadhi. Ardhavbhedaka can be correlated with Migraine which is characterized by unilateral headache which may be associated with nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia etc. Migraine is the most common severe form of primary headache i.e. 16% affecting the people of age group 16-65 and can cause significant disability. It is three times more common in women than in men. Aim: Study was aimed to evaluate the effect of Nasya and Vachapippali Churna in the management of Ardhavbhedhaka w.s.r. to Migraine. Material and Methods: Literature pertaining to Ardhavbhedhaka and Migraine was compiled and analysed to formulate the hypothesis. The study was conducted on 10 patients of Ardhavbhedhaka from R.G.G.P.G. Ayurvedic College and Hospital Paprola. Nasya with Dashmoola Taila for 7 days followed by Vachapippali Churna 500mg BD for 21 days were given to the patients. Result and Conclusion: Both Dashmoola Taila Nasya and Vachapippali Churna were found effective and having significant improvement on all the parameters like Headache, Nausea, Vomiting and on other associated symptoms of the disease Ardhavbhedaka. No adverse effects were observed during the course of trial. In nutshell, Panchkarma therapy Nasya was proved effective in the management of the disease in comparison to modern aspect.
