THE EFFECTS OF TRUNK STABILITY EXERCISE ON PAIN AND BALANCE AMONG BHARATANATYAM DANCERS WITH LOW BACK PAIN

Abstract
Background: Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance form originated from Tamil Nadu which involves rhythmic dance movements. There are various postures in this dance form to attain which dancers need maximum muscle strength and sufficient range of motion at required joints. Dancers need good body balance to maintain these postures. Dancers also have to maintain balance while changing their movements and postures. Aims and objectives: To find out the effect of trunk stability exercise on balance and reducing pain among Bharatanatyam dancers with low back pain. Materials and methods: 30 Female Bharatanatyam dancers were taken with the age group of 18 to 25 years. After proper instruction given to the subjects, they were divided into 2 groups, group A (n=15) and group B (n=15). Group A Trunk stability exercise training whereas group B is control group. There are two outcome measures for this study. Result: The result showed statistically significant improvement in Group A compared to Group B. Conclusion: This study supports the effects of trunk stability exercise on balance and reducing the pain among Bharatanatyam dancers with low back pain.
